BBQ RIBS: Spritz or not to Spritz that is the question

Is it necessary to Spritz during smoking Ribs? If so when do you start, how long & how often?
Some say start after the first 45 mins, others an hour, and many not at all. The purpose of Spritzing is to add moisture to the meat, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of  achieving a great bark. Also every 15mins opening and closing the lid. Wouldn't temp fluctuate and loss of smoke become an issue.
If you are wrapping our ribs what do you need to worries about moisture for. So I ask can Spritzing be deleted from the 3-2-1 method?
